In 2018, Germany was the site of the first repowering project in the history of EDF Renewables. The Eckolstädt wind park was originally developed and commissioned by EDF Renewables in 1999.

To repower the wind farm, our teams fully dismantled the wind turbines, recycling most of their components and the foundations were crushed to be reused as backfill for the platforms of new projects and surrounding roads.

The wind farm was rebuilt on the same site with 10 new-generation wind turbines and the installed capacity of the park was increased from 14.5 MW to 34.5 MW – enough to meet the electricity needs of almost 18,500 German households.
